HAMILTON, May 4 – Today YWCA Hamilton is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2011 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards. The recipients are inspiring women whose vision, creativity, and determination have significantly improved the lives of women, girls and our wider community.
Inspired by lifelong dreams and fuelled by great passion, the recipients are creating important change in a myriad of ways. Several work with adolescent women and help them to take on leadership roles in our community. Others are developing innovative approaches to ending violence against women and securing women’s rights. Some have made significant contributions to efforts to improve women’s health, economic security and social well-being.

YWCA Hamilton’s Women of Distinction Awards are nationally recognized as one of the most prestigious awards for women. YWCA’s from all across Canada join in the celebration each year, honouring the achievements of women. The 32nd Annual YWCA Women of Distinction Awards dinner, led by Honourary Chair, three time Olympic Gold Medalist Becky Kellar, was held on Tuesday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hamilton Convention Centre.
YWCA Hamilton is a women-led, service organization supporting individuals through health and wellness programs for women, families, seniors and people with special needs. We advocate for the improved status of women locally and through our affiliation with YWCA Canada and the World YWCA.
